Interview with Charlotte Rivière and Lesli Ferré

Charlotte and Lesli received diplomas from Lisaa in 2004

- What did you do after you graduated from Lisaa ?

We did some internships which proved to us that we couldn’t create without doing something ourselves. We then launched our own brand : « Charlotte contre Lesli ».
This association is very fruitful. We work together on all the creative steps and are very complementary.

- What are your principal influences ?

Our main influences are outside the fashion world.

Lesli :My influences are musical (Arcade Fire, Blonde Redhead, Rachel’s), choreographic (Alain Buffard, Gilles Jobin), or from films (Lars von Trier, Jim Jarmusch). Each time, I try to retranscribe/materialize sentiments and emotions in clothing.

Charlotte :I am interested in modern science (genetics, DNA and cloning), Leonardo da Vinci and botany. Music (Le Diktat, NIN) and photography (Dave McKean, Floria Sigismond) are also important sources of inspiration for me.

- Tell us about your creations

In our women’s ready-to-wear collection, we confront our two different design worlds to create a new one. We have the same way of looking at fashion and imagining a garment, but we express it differently. Our designs have an ambiguity and antinomy that results from this confrontation …

- What are your next projects ?

Right now we are taking photos of our first models and presenting our collection to the public. Our web site is under construction …
