Cécile graduated from Lisaa Rennes in 2001
- What were the first steps in your professional life ?
For a year, I worked in a PAO (computer-assisted publishing) studio and then I wanted to move towards video so I did a complementary training. Lisaa Rennes’ video workshops gave me the desire to do that … Then I did freelance work and learned about technical restrictions in the industry. Then I moved to Geneva and ended up working for Caravan Production.
- How did you go from graphic design training to a job revolving around video ?
Page layout and composition are also important in video. We start constructing video animation using a storyboard with fixed images. Because of this, graphic design training is an excellent base to which we add ideas of temporality and rhythm. My versatile profile appealed to Caravan Production since I bring a graphic, esthetic vision to classic video editing.
- How do you work ?
Well. I enjoy my current structure where I continually evolve : we are a small, growing, tightly knit team … Suddenly, I have a versatile role : I see clients and also work on storyboards and production, from compositing to the finished product. I participate in all the project’s stages. Eventually, I will evolve towards art direction and project management.
- Tell us about a particular project …
Recently, we worked on an ad for Naomi Campbell perfume. This was a high end project shown in different European countries. The challenge consisted of finding an efficient concept to validate the product : we found the balance thanks to rhythmic editing and an elegant animation for the perfume … Things went well and the clients were very satisfied.
- How do you see yourself evolving in your field ?
Motion design is developing greatly, thanks, especially, to After Effects software. Video needs today are enormous because of web distribution. Right now, there isn’t much competition : this niche has a lot of potential and should continue that way for a number of years. It calls for creative graphic designers with a specialty in this area.
