Anne Hubert published her first book, « Customiser », at Marabout editions

Anne Hubert received her diploma from Lisaa in 1997

- What have been the steps in your professional career ?

I began working as an assistant designer for Pauline Ricard who I met at Lisaa. One thing led to another, and I became a freelance designer, specializing in home decoration, household linens and table arts. I do window displays, scenographies, trade fair stands, etc. Over time, I have had bigger and bigger clients.

- How did your book come about ?

I created my brand last September : : "La cerise sur le gâteau" (www.lacerisesurlegateau.fr). I design household linens : comforter covers, cushions, etc. I never do the same object twice : each client personalizes his product by deciding on the placement and color of the silkscreen print. The brand has been doing well. At the same time, Pauline Ricard proposed a collection concept to Marabout Editions : a book, a designer. This is how this project came about.

- How did the book come together ?

This was an amazing team project. We all know each other and we enjoyed working together. The photographer, Coco Amardeil, did an excellent job and the graphic designer also invested a lot of time.

- - Tell us about your book.

The idea is simple : it is about customizing what you find in your closet to create one-of-a-kind objects from existing materials. This is a way to give a new life to objects we are attached to and create personal products inexpensively.

- Do you have other projects ?

Yes. A Japanese shop, who also publishes books, liked my book. They proposed my doing an exhibition in Tokyo in March with all the objects showed in « Customiser ». And then we will do a second volume. While we were doing the first one, we got a lot of new ideas which we plan to develop.

- Do you have advice to give to future Lisaa graduates ?

The most important thing is to follow your desires and be daring while keeping a level head. We always gain by carrying our ideas as far as possible. Another point which I stress is the necessity to meet people and not turn in on yourself. Working in a team is very stimulating and generates lots of ideas.
